Recruiters need to find and understand you

A strong profile answers three questions quickly: What work do you do? What value do you create? What opportunities are relevant to you? Visibility without clear positioning produces attention that may not lead anywhere.

Start with your target and skills profile

Decide which roles, industries and problems you want to be associated with. Identify the keywords employers use for that work. Career Ignite begins LinkedIn support with a skills profile so the content is grounded in real capability.

Use a professional photograph and banner

Choose a clear, current head-and-shoulders photograph that fits your professional context. Use the banner to reinforce your field, strengths or professional theme. Avoid clutter and contact details that will become outdated.

Write a searchable headline

Do not use only 'Open to Work' or a vague title. Combine your role or target role with specialisms and value. Example: 'HR Professional | Talent Development | Employee Relations | Building Practical People Solutions.' Keep every claim accurate.

Make the About section human and specific

Open with the professional problem you help solve or the direction you are building toward. Summarise your experience, strengths and relevant achievements. Add a clear next step such as connecting about opportunities, partnerships or sector conversations.

Strengthen experience entries

Use short achievement-focused descriptions, not copied job descriptions. Include scope, outcomes, projects, systems and stakeholders. For career changers, make transferable value explicit without hiding the change.

Build credibility across the profile

Complete education, licences, certifications, skills and relevant projects. Request recommendations from people who can describe your work specifically. Ensure dates and titles align with your CV.

Be visible without becoming a full-time creator

Comment thoughtfully on relevant posts, share useful sector insights and occasionally explain a lesson from your work. Consistency and relevance matter more than posting every day. Protect confidential information and treat every interaction as part of your professional reputation.

Measure the right result

Profile views are not the final goal. Track relevant connection requests, recruiter searches, quality conversations, referrals and applications. Refine your positioning when the audience finding you does not match your goal.
