Your CV has two audiences
Many employers use an applicant tracking system (ATS) to store applications, support searching and help recruiters manage candidates. Your CV still needs to persuade a person. The goal is not to 'beat' software; it is to present relevant information clearly and truthfully.
Begin with a skills profile
Career Ignite CV services start with a skills profile. Before writing, identify the target roles, technical skills, transferable skills, sector language, achievements and gaps. Without this foundation, a CV becomes a history document rather than a positioning tool.
Use a clear structure
Use familiar headings such as Professional Profile, Key Skills, Work Experience, Education and Certifications. Keep dates and job titles consistent. Avoid putting essential information only in headers, footers, text boxes, icons or complex graphics that may not be interpreted consistently.
Match relevant keywords
Study several genuine job advertisements for the target role. Identify repeated job titles, tools, qualifications, responsibilities and industry terms. Use relevant wording naturally where it accurately reflects your experience.
Do not copy the entire advertisement or add hidden keywords. Keyword stuffing weakens credibility and cannot replace required experience.
Write achievement-focused experience
A responsibility explains what you were expected to do. An achievement shows the value you created. Compare 'Responsible for recruitment' with 'Coordinated end-to-end recruitment for 35 vacancies and improved weekly reporting for hiring managers.'
Use numbers only when they are accurate. Useful evidence includes volume, time, money, quality, service levels, reach and risk reduction.
Keep formatting readable
Use a standard font, clear headings, consistent spacing and simple bullets. A one-column layout is usually the safest choice. Tables and heavily designed templates may look attractive but can create inconsistent extraction in some systems.
Choose the correct file type
Follow the employer's instructions. DOCX is widely accepted and PDF often preserves layout, but the job portal's stated requirement takes priority. Check that the file opens correctly and give it a professional name such as Name_Surname_CV.pdf.
Final ATS and human review
Check that contact information is correct, target keywords are supported by evidence, dates are consistent, spelling is clean and every section adds value. Read the CV as a recruiter: can the person see your fit within the first half-page?
Career Ignite approach
A strong CV begins with clarity about the value you offer. Career Ignite combines a skills profile, targeted positioning and evidence-based writing to build a CV that works for systems and people.
